How do I contact you?
Easy. Our email and snail mail addresses are located on our
contact us page.
Can I call you?
No. Our phones are rarely on, and when they are we don't answer them. But we love email and we will call you if the situation requires it.
PARTY PLANNING
What if I don’t know how many people will actually come to the party yet?
Option #1: If you have a good idea of the range of the number of guests (i.e. 12-20, 30-50, etc), you should order the maximum number of characters you think you might need. We will provide you with a core of necessary characters to suit your numbers and a group of "supporting" characters who can be omitted without serious harm to the plot. The primary benefit of this option is flexibility; you won't be beholden to those flaky friends who confirm (or bail out) the morning of the party. The drawback is that you might pay for characters you don't use.
Option #2: Order for the minimum number of guests you know (or guess) will be attending, and then add additional characters later. The main benefit here is that you only pay for characters you know you’ll need. The drawback is that the “add-ons” are obvious—since you’re buying them later, they won’t appear on the “core” characters’ guest lists. This means that “core” characters will know that the “add-ons” aren’t suspects (which, in our opinion is just not as fun!).
What happens if somebody flakes at the last minute?
Included in the Host's Packet is a guide listing all characters as either "Core" or "Supporting." If the missing person's character is supporting then you have nothing to worry about. The absence will not affect the plot of the mystery that much. If it's a core character, you have a couple of options. You might try to find somebody to play that character. Walk outside and yell for somebody. Call your barber. Ask the cashier at the grocery store. An easier solution might be to swap parts; hand over the "core" character's packet to a guest who is playing a "supporting" role. A last-minute costume change might be tricky but it's better than having no "core" character.
What happens if a guest loses his/her character packet?
Once you are done yelling, try e-mailing . We check e-mail frequently and we may have time to e-mail you a copy of the character packet.
Do you host the parties?
Yes, but only for our friends. Either become our friend or host your own party.
GAMEPLAY
How do the murderer and victim get chosen?
The Host has the option of knowing who the murderer and victim are, and he/she can then choose which guests will play each role. If the Host chooses NOT to be privy to this information then these roles will be chosen by the luck of the draw.
How does the murder happen?
It varies from scenario to scenario, but generally the murderer will get the victim alone somewhere in the party and "kill" the victim. That is, the murderer and victim are told in their character packets how to pull off the "murder" as a team.
What about guests who are shy/don’t want to interact?
The Host receives a list of characters who are "Outgoing" in other words, characters who are performers by trade, leaders of the investigation, and so on. Thus, the Host can avoid putting a shy person in a position where he/she has to be "in the spotlight." How guests play out their characters is completely up to them.
Do participants need acting experience? Do they follow a script?
No and no. Some characters have tasks to complete or information to share/collect but there is no "script" to follow exactly.
Are these mysteries suitable for teenagers and/or children?
Definitely not children. The writing sometimes contains innuendo and off-color humor, and there are adult relationships, love affairs and so on (nothing so sordid that you wouldn't be shocked to watch it on prime time television). We wouldn't have problems with letting our teenagers participate in any of our scenarios, but you are probably a better parent than we are.
Is this like "Dinner Theater" that I have heard about?
If you substitute "Party" for "Theater" than yes! Otherwise, no. Dinner theater (in our vastly limited experience) involves "guests" sitting at a restaurant table with waiter service watching a group of actors perform with possibly some limited interaction with the audience. That's not what this is.
ORDERING
What do I get in an order?
Each order is delivered as a complete game kit and includes:
- A host packet with instructions for how to run the game
- Individual character packets for all your guests, which include each guest’s persona; secret information; information that may be red herrings or clues absolutely necessary to solving the mystery; costume suggestions; and, of course, an introduction to playing the game
- Key props necessary for the scenario plot.
How long does it take to receive and order?
Typically it takes up to four weeks to receive your order once we have processed your payment.
We do offer rush orders. See the next question.
Do you handle rush orders?
